The classic Colombian profile brings together a mellow acidity with a hint of sweetness and slight nutty undertones. This rich, medium-bodied coffee has the most recognizable coffee flavor to most North Americans.
Colombia is recognized as creating some of the richest coffee in the world. Its coffee growing region is generally between the cities of Cali, Medellín and Bogotá, and is known as the Zone Cafeteria. With high altitudes, a tropical climate, and volcanic soil, the small towns and cities in these hills are the perfect location to grow high-quality coffee.
Running through the center of Colombia are the towering, snow-covered volcanoes and mountains of the Andes. Tropical beaches line the north and west. And there are deserts in the north and vast grasslands, called Los Llanos, in the east.
The country’s most notable surface feature is the Andes mountain system, which breaks up the national territory into regions that are isolated from one another and have distinctive characteristics. The three major regions of the country are the Andean mountains and valleys, the Caribbean coast, and the east plains.
Growing elevations in Colombia range from 3,900 – 5,900 feet above sea level.
